Whether you are prone to locking yourself out of the car or if you simply want to be prepared for when you have a bad day, having a spare car key is something any car owner should have. The problem that many car owners face is that they do not know where they should hide the key. The following are four places where you can keep your spare key.
1. One thing that you can do is to not hide the key at all, but to give it to someone you trust. This might be a neighbor, a friend, or a family member. If you ever lock yourself out of the car, the designated person can either drive the key to you, or you can head to their house to grab it yourself. As long as you trust the person and know that they will be available and responsible in your time of need, this might be a good option.
2. Another thing you can do with your spare key is to hide it somewhere on your car. Many people have magnetic boxes that they put the key in and then stick it somewhere underneath the car. The trick is finding the right spot. Begin to look around your car for places you could put the key. Scrap the first ten places you think of. Odds are that any thief will think of those places, too. After you come up with a creative spot that nobody else will think of, you can either put a magnetic box there with the key inside, or you can use some strong industrial tape to tape the key on.
3. The next place to keep your spare car key is in your purse or wallet. Many times, you will have your wallet in your pocket or your purse on your shoulder, and will not leave those in the car. Then, if you leave the keys in the ignition and jump out with just the purse or wallet, you will have no need to worry.
4. The last place you can keep your spare car key is in a safe or a safety deposit box. Keeping it locked up will ensure that it will not get into the wrong hands, but as long as you have access, you should be able to get it when you need it.
As you can see, there are some great places to keep your spare car key. Whether you lock yourself out of the car all the time, or if you just want to be prepared for the inevitable, a spare key can really come in handy on many occasions. Keeping your spare key with a friend, in a box on your car, in your wallet, or in a safe is the best way to protect yourself in case of a lockout.
